If you are going to Paris before September 16, 2012, I recommend that you stop by Les Arts Decoratifs to see the Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs exhibition. My boyfriend and I went there when we were in Paris and it’s definitely worth a visit!
The exhibition consists of two floors. The first one is an insertion into the story about the iconic L.V. monogram and how Louis Vuitton started out as a trunk-maker when he was only 16 years old!
The second floor is about Marc Jacobs work in the fashion house of Louis Vuitton and how he has played an major part in establishing the international image of the Louis Vuitton brand. One of the keys to the succes has been Marc Jacobs collaborations with contemporary artist. One of my favourites is the collaboration with Japaneese artist from Tokyo, Takashi Murakami, who at first contributed artwork which was then used in design of a series of handbags. Later on, in collaboration with Marc Jacobs, Takashi Murakami designed the successful Multicolour canvas range of bags and accessories where the standard L.V. logo was used, but in 32 different colour! Takashi is also the man behind the Cherry Blossom, Cherry and Love Eye monograms. You will of course get to see all the collaborations and the exhibition is finished with a peepshow showing movie clips from various LV runway shows!
Hvis du skal til Paris inden den 16. september, kan jeg kun anbefale, at du tager et smut forbi Les Arts Decoratifs for at se Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs udstillingen. Min kæreste og jeg så den, da vi var i Paris, og den er helt klart et besøg værd!
Udstillingen består af to parallelle etager. Første etage er en indføring i historien bag det ikoniske L.V. monogram og en fortælling om, hvordan det hele startede med Louis Vuitton, der som blot 16-årig startede som kuffertmager.
Anden etage giver et indblik i Marc Jacobs arbejde hos Louis Vuitton, og hvordan han har spillet en stor rolle i arbejdet med at få etableret Louis Vuitton på den internationale modescene. En af nøglerne bag denne succes har været Marc Jacobs samarbejder med forskellige moderne kunstnere. En af mine favoritter er samarbejdet med den japanske kunstner fra Tokyo, Takashi Murakami, som i begyndelsen bidrog med kunst, der blev brugt til at designe en linje af tasker og accessories. Efterfølgende designede han i samarbejde med Marc Jacobs Multicolour canvas linjen, hvor standard L.V. logoet blev brugt, men i 32 forskellige farver! Takashi er også manden bag Cherry Blossom, Cherry og Love Eye monogrammerne. Alle Marc Jacobs samarbejder er naturligvis udstillet og hele udstillingen bliver afsluttet med et peepshow, hvor beskueren gennem et lille hul i væggen kan se brudstykker fra forskellige LV modeshows!
